Our Journey into BDSM & Bondage

If you’re reading this, you likely have an interest in BDSM and bondage. How did Bonnie and I become involved in it? Good question.

It all started when we bought a four-poster bed Four postermany years ago. Bonnie, presumably just joking around, wondered how it would be if I tied her to the posts. Just an offhand comment, no doubt we both thought. But I found myself thinking about it from time to time, and eventually came home with some rope, just to see how she would react.

I will never forget the look of surprise on Bonnie’s face. It wasn’t surprise with rejection but surprise with curiosity. Of course, we were both a bit timid about it all and joked around a lot before we actually tried it.

But one day, one fateful day, I actually brought out the ropes and tied her gently to the posts. She was a bit embarrassed at first. But the embarrassment eventually faded and changed to wild enthusiasm. For which I am very grateful! But I am getting ahead of myself…

So, there she was, tied to the posts, all spread-eagle on the bed. What the heck was I going to do now? I know we will date ourselves here, but this was before you could just Google something.  Like, “what do I do with my woman now that I have tied her to our four-poster?” I’m not even sure how that would work now, but most likely something would come up (perhaps this post).

So, we fumbled our way around this first adventure. Then somehow we found The Stockroom, which has been around since 1988 or 89. That place has been our friend for a very long time, and I have reviewed some of our favorite toys from there in this space.  You certainly don’t need elaborate toys or furniture to enjoy bondage for sexual pleasure. But I’m telling you it can add a lot. Not only that, but it’s very fun to try out a new toy.

Slowly but surely we added to our toy collection and found a few books, such as Jay Wiseman’s Erotic Erotic bondageBondage Handbook, Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns: The Romance and Sexual Sorcery of Screw roses send thornsSadomasochism, and Sm 101: A Realistic Introduction. These were fun to read and gave us new ideas. Then when the internet got into full swing, I knew we had stumbled onto a goldmine of information.

One good thing about these books is that they help you feel a little bit more “normal.” In case you worry that your desires and fantasies are, well, abnormal. Or just plain bad. We finally came to grips with the fact that the possibilities excited us very much. We were adults, it was all consensual, so what we did in the privacy of our own home was nobody else’s business.

You may find it interesting that the first piece of bondage furniture that I built for us was a prototype of our Medieval Pillory Stock, and not something a bit more tame, like the Classic Sawhorse. I guess that’s just the kind of guy I am, and I really like the way Bonnie looks when I secure her in that thing. Not to mention thinking of all the things I can do to/with her. It boggles the mind.

Little by little, we tried some of this and some of that. Most of it culminating in the best sex of our lives. Which, as far as we’re concerned, is totally the point. The journey may be (or will be) the same for you, or you may advance more quickly. But in our case, the journey has been half the fun. It’s a journey we’re still on, and plan to be on as long as we are able.

After all, life’s too short for mediocre sex!

Until next time,

~Clyde
